A Meddah is a storyteller, and "Son Of A Meddah" is a wonderful book by a client of mine named NuFaShe that tells the story of an ordinary Turkish family as they live through the collapse of the Ottoman Empire in the early 1900's. Their everyday compassion as they experience the plight of the Armenian people is an inspiring and enlightening new perspective on this turbulent and painful time, of which so few have any real understanding. "Coyote Returns" shows spine lettering as well and "Billie's Due" is a projected cover for a new client.
Your cover, whether it's on the web or on a shelf in a bookstore, is what entices a reader to pick up your book. Unless you're already a well-known author, what should be most prominent is your title and the image or design behind it that will hook the reader on your story. I've been a graphic designer since the 1980's, and I'd be glad to help you with your cover design at a reasonable charge.

The two big mistakes a lot of new authors make are featuring your name instead of your title and using overly lurid or too simplistic cover art. You want your book to look like a bestseller, but your name doesn't have the draw that Stephen King or Patricia Cornwell does. Not yet. If you're uneasy about your cover design, I'd like to help. Once I have a clear idea of how you'd like your cover to look, and what your budget is for stock photos, etc., we can make your book as attractive as possible.
I do complete book design as well as cover art, and I've just finished a non-fiction book based on the 1894 diary of a Vermont dairy farmer's wife, which was edited and transcribed by an author from New Hampshire. "Patterns of Her Life" will be published this Fall. |
Dear Jim,
I am very happy with this last proof and do not see anything to add or change at this point. We did it! Now I have to get serious about a publisher. I want to talk to Alan Rumrill, who did my Foreword, and see what he recommends for approaching publishers like University Press of NE, etc. I can't thank you enough for being so patient with this whole project. I am already thinking of another project to do with you sometime because you so easy to work with. -Sue Francis To see an excerpt from Susan Francis' book click here - sd_diary_excerpt_01.pdf |
